What Furnace Cleaning Involves
A proper furnace cleaning covers more than a quick wipe down of the visible cabinet. We remove the blower assembly to clean the wheel, which collects dust and grease that reduce airflow and force the motor to work harder than it should. Burners are cleaned of soot and corrosion so the flame burns evenly, and the flame sensor is polished, since a coated sensor is one of the most common reasons a gas furnace shuts itself off mid cycle.
We also inspect and clean the heat exchanger surfaces we can access, check the condensate drain on high efficiency units for algae or sediment buildup, and clear dust from the control board and wiring compartment. A dirty or restricted condensate line can trigger safety lockouts on high efficiency furnaces even when every other component is functioning normally, so this step gets checked even on furnaces that seem to be running fine.
Filters are replaced or cleaned as part of the visit, and we measure static pressure before and after to confirm airflow has actually improved rather than assuming it has. A furnace cleaning is also the point where early warning signs, a cracked wire, a corroded connector, a worn belt, tend to get caught before they turn into a mid winter breakdown.
